Assignment #1: Guiding the Eye
In the previous lesson, I talked about three main elements in photos our brains are wired to pick up:
Areas of Greatest Contrast
Highly Saturated Colors
Textures and Patterns
Here are some examples from my work
The image on the left shows the right bowl of soup to be the one I want people to focus on first, so I made sure that the bowl is brighter than the second bowl. And since the areas around it are darker in tone, it helped it stand out much more.
The middle image shows a strong color contrast between the green and the orange from the juice. The localization of the orange in the center draws my eye right to it.
The image on the right demonstrates a pattern that immediately draws my eye into the image. It definitely holds my attention longer.
Your assignment is as follows:
Using natural light, take a still life photo that uses 1 or more of these elements. Also, take a BTS photo of your setup.
Post your result in our Discord server.
When you're ready, I'll see you in the next lesson.
